Common questions

What do I need to use Rock Quick Search?

A Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later, your church's Rock server address (for example, https://rock.yourchurch.org), and a Rock username and password.

I can't sign in. What should I check?

Make sure the server address starts with https:// and is the same address you use to reach Rock in your browser. Rock Quick Search needs a Rock username and password: accounts that only sign in through Google, Facebook, Microsoft, or another external provider can't be used. If your account is locked or unconfirmed in Rock, ask your Rock administrator.

How do I open Rock Quick Search?

Click the boulder icon in your menu bar, or press ⌥⌘R from any app. Press Escape to close it. Rock Quick Search has no Dock icon; it lives in the menu bar.

Can I change the keyboard shortcut?

Yes. Open Settings (the gear icon, or ⌘,), click the shortcut, and press the new combination. It must include Command, Option, or Control. Press Escape to cancel.

Nothing happens when I click Email. How do I fix it?

The Email button uses the email app you pick in Settings → Compose email with. Choose Apple Mail to always use Mail, or Gmail (web) or Outlook (web) if you read email in a browser; those open a new message in your default browser using the account you're signed in to there. Default mail app uses whatever macOS has set for email links, which a browser can quietly take over. If no email app can open it, Rock Quick Search copies the address for you instead.

Why is the Text button grayed out for some numbers?

Rock Quick Search respects each phone number's texting setting in Rock. If texting is turned off for that number, or the person has opted out of texts, the Text button is disabled. You can still call, FaceTime, or copy the number.

Why can't I see someone's phone number?

Numbers marked unlisted in Rock are never shown. Rock's own security also decides what your account can see, so some details may be limited. Your Rock administrator can help with permissions.

How do I make Rock Quick Search start automatically?

Open Settings and turn on Launch at Login. If macOS asks for approval, allow Rock Quick Search in System Settings → General → Login Items.

Does Rock Quick Search store my church's data?

No. Contact details are kept in memory only and are cleared when you quit or sign out. Your password is stored only in your Mac's Keychain. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I sign out or switch servers?

Open Settings and choose Sign Out. This removes your saved password and clears all data. You can then sign in to a different server.
